Picture this: it’s 1994 and you’ve just heard about a new NBC television series that’s about to air. It’s all anyone can talk about. The show is about six friends who live in New York City and shows how even when life gets tough, good friends will always be there for you.
Flashforward twenty-five years and this television series is still insanely popular. Yep, you’ve guessed it right. The television series is Friends.
This hilarious sitcom was filmed at Warner Bros. Studios in Burbank, California and first aired on September 22, 1994. There are 10 seasons and 236 episodes filled with lots of friendship, classic lines, great love stories and timeless humor. The last episode aired on May 6, 2004.
The main cast of Friends includes Jennifer Aniston (Rachel Green), Courteney Cox (Monica Geller), Lisa Kudrow (Phoebe Buffay), Matthew Perry (Chandler Bing), David Schwimmer (Ross Geller) and Matt LeBlanc (Joey Tribbiani).
Rachel is the strong-headed female who fearlessly shares her own opinions. Monica is the know-it-all who loves to cook. Phoebe is the caring, but crazy friend who beats to her own drum. Chandler is the extremely sarcastic friend who always has a witty comment to make. Ross is the science enthusiast and has a doctorate in Paleontology. Joey is the slow-witted ladies man. While these characters are vastly different from each other, it is their friendship that brings them all together.
Fans from all over the world have fallen head-over-heels in love with the main characters and the relationships they have with one another. For instance, everyone adores Chandler and Joey’s bromance because it is so genuine and funny. In fact, their friendship has been trending online under “friendship goals” for a while now. This means that younger generations look up to Chandler and Joey’s friendship in hopes of one day having a similar friendship with their own friends.
Not only has Friends impacted millions of people around the world but it has also become a major part of America’s pop culture. Since the show premiered, it has only become more and more popular. It’s no wonder why everyone wanted “The Rachel” haircut in the ‘90s and why almost every generation knows the theme song by heart today.
Even though times have changed, it is amazing to see how a show from the ‘90s is still one of the most-watched television series in America. According to Today.com, over 16 million people watch reruns of Friends on a weekly basis. That is thanks to the help of reruns on cable networks such as TBS and streaming services such as Netflix.
This beloved, pre-smartphone series will be leaving Netflix in the spring of 2020 and will be going on WarnerMedia’s HBO Max streaming service. It is unclear what the price of this streaming service will be but Netflix’s most basic plan is $8.99 per month.
So if you’re ever looking for a good belly laugh, then I would highly recommend watching Friends. This timeless, feel-good show will continue to be The One That Made an Impact and helped make the world a better place!
